If allergies had a top ten list of their favorite
symptoms what would be on it? Would they prefer life
threatening or just really annoying?
The most common symptoms, that may or may not be on
their favorites list:
Breathing problems.
This one should be fun for an allergy. It really gets
the persons attention. Nothing like the lack of oxygen
to center a person’s attention on the allergy.
Burning, watery or itchy eyes.
This symptom falls into the really annoying category.
It could cause additional problems if you can’t see
where you’re going.
Red, swollen eyes, also called Conjunctivitis.
Certainly annoying, but most people can deal with this
one.
Coughing.
This one gets old real quick. And a constant cough
quickly becomes painful.
Diarrhea.
This one might start out in the annoying category, but
left unchecked could switch to the life threatening
section very quickly.
Headache.
Depending on the severity of the headache, this one
might be tolerable.
Hives.
This symptom is not only annoying and uncomfortable
(possibly painful) it draws the attention of strangers
on the street.
Itchy nose, mouth, throat or skin.
Another in the category of really annoying. An itch
that can’t be soothed is one of the most annoying
things there is.
Runny nose.
Yeah, this one could cause problems with other people.
No one likes to hear someone constantly sniffing or
blowing their nose. Makes people wonder what germs
you’re spreading around.
Skin rashes.
Possibly ugly to look at, but tolerable

Does Food Make You Sick?
Do you often suffer from strange symptoms after eating
certain types of foods? Do you get itchy, break out in
hives, swell up or actually vomit? You could be
suffering from a common food allergy.
It’s estimated that over 12 million Americans suffer
from food allergies. Most allergic reactions are mild,
but around 30,000 visits to the emergency room are
reported each year because of the reactions. As many
as 200 deaths each year are attributed to food
allergies.
Studies report up to 8 percent of children have an
allergy to some type of food. The numbers are slightly
smaller for adults, only around 4 percent.
Many children will outgrow their food allergies. But
some will carry these allergies into adulthood and
suffer from them their entire lives.
Eating prepackaged foods, out in restaurants or even
friends homes can cause problems. It’s often hard to
tell what’s added to the foods we eat.
You hate to ask the cook "what’s in this?", but
sometimes you just have to. Especially when asking can
mean the difference between an enjoyable meal and a
trip to the emergency room.
With the increased cases of peanut allergies, most
packaged foods have started including on the label the
use of peanut oils and even if the processing of nuts
is handled in the same factory.
There’s no cure for food allergies. So the only thing
you can do is avoid the foods that cause the reactions

Allergic To Certain Foods ?
Food allergies are the most common and prevalent type
of allergy. Up to 12 million Americans suffer from
some type of food allergy.
The most common culprits are eggs, fish and shellfish,
peanuts and other tree nuts.
Children are most commonly allergic to the same foods
but with the addition to milk and other dairy
products.
Corn and corn products also commonly cause allergic
reactions in children.
Most allergic symptoms are often only bothersome, but
they can be life threatening.
The most common symptoms are itching of the mouth,
eyes and skin, hives, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea,
often but not always accompanied by stomach cramps and
wheezing, shortness of breath or trouble swallowing.
The more severe symptoms can include swelling. The
swelling tends to focus on the face area causing
swelling of the eyelids, lips, ears and tongue.
Mood swings and depression is another symptom.
The most severe symptoms can result in death. Around
200 deaths each year are reported from both the
initial allergic reaction and secondary complications.
There is currently no cure for food allergies. While
allergy shots have been developed to help with many
different types of allergies, none have been
successfully made for food allergies.
The people with the allergies usually avoid those
foods that cause the allergic reaction. Epinephrine
can relieve the symptoms, and is often carried by
people diagnosed with food allergies to be used in an
emergency.
Some scientists believe genetic engineering may create
vaccines, but that’s still years away.

Mold Remediation For People With Asthma

Individuals with Asthma and Allergies require a home that is Allergen Free. This Allergen Free Area is your place to retreat for comfort, solace and relaxation. When you have an unwanted guest such as Mold, your Safe Home from Allergens is gone. One day it was a great place to relax and enjoy, the next day, you are dealing with mold exposure symptoms. These symptoms can include runny nose, coughing, shortness of breath, headaches, eye irritation, dizziness, nausea, and asthma attacks.
The first step to take in fixing your home so it is mold free is to find and correct the source of any moisture. Without moisture mold will not grow. Remember "No Moisture No Mold" is our motto. It is important to react quickly because microbial growth can begin in as little as 72 hours. The one thing to remember is that if you have a flood, have it dried up as soon as possible. I recently had my A/C Air Handler leak into the Return Area Plenum below it. Had it dried up within 24 hours. When you on top of it, you will never have mold. I was fortunate because I have a water intrusion alarm in this area. When water leaked into the area, it sounded a loud ringing sound. Fixed the problem of the drain line that caused the water back up. Algae caused the line to clog up. This is common in all Air Conditioners. If you don't fix the water problem, you can count on recurring issues with mold.
I had a job this past week where a dishwasher had been leaking for over a year under the Kitchen Cabinets. The Microbial Test results showed high levels of toxic mold. The type of microbial growth was Stachybotrys and Chaetomium under the Kitchen Cabinets. When you have this type of hidden leak, it is serious enough to remove all the cabinets in the affected areas. They were fortunate enough to have it covered by their Homeowners Insurance. There are some Insurance Companies not covering these types of leaks. They consider them a maintenance issue and not a burst pipe. I always recommend you check and see how good your Insurance Coverage really is. Call your Agent and see what is not covered before it happens, especially regarding water leaks.
In conclusion, people with Asthma and Allergies must live in an Allergen Free Area. Microbial growth only comes from moisture. When a flood occurs in your home, it is important to have it dried up quickly. If you are concerned about how good your Homeowners Insurance Coverage really is, call you Insurance Agent to verify. If you are sick from Microbial Growth, contact your Doctor immediately.

My House Is Killing Me
Recently a young lady called me who has allergy symptoms in her home and asked me to do an Environmental Inspection. When I got to the house, she greeted me with a stuffy nose and red eyes. It was interesting because she was holding her cat so it would not run out when she opened the front door. She also said that it was her husband's cat for over 10 years and he would not get rid of the cat even if it affected my allergies. I found this a very troubling statement because this is a common scenario when we go to houses where one of the occupants is allergic to the pets in the house.
The following week, I had a client call me saying that "My House Is Killing Me" and wanted us to investigate and find out what it was. He was having Asthma symptoms in every room of the house. During the Environmental Inspection, I noticed an area over a closet that had water stains on it. This area was also adjacent to the Air Handler Closet. Decided to look in the attic and there it was: 10 cardboard boxes for storage that were covered with mold. Apparently, there was a roof leak above this area and the roof leak leaked into the boxes with minimal damage in the house. What happened was the A/C Closet had a hole in the ceiling and every time the Air Conditioning cycled on, it would suck air in from the attic which was next to the moldy boxes. The mold spores were being spread throughout the home via the A/C System.
These are typical stories of the type of clients we have worked with for the last 15 years. Some problems are easy to fix and others can get very complicated. We have witnessed first hand how mold can affect people with Asthma and Allergies. Women and children seem to suffer worse than men living in the same house. Why, I do not know. I once had a Doctor say that it could be hormonal. The sad thing is when the husband is not allergic in the house, there can be a lot of tension around the issue of Asthma and Allergies.
We also deal with a lot of individuals who have Chemical Sensitivity from some type of injury from the job. This is worse than Asthma or Allergies because they are reactive to every thing. It is tough living like this but they are troopers who keep trying to make it in a world that is full of chemicals that can affect them. A simple Glade Plugin will affect them and not affect other people. I give them credit for not giving up.
In conclusion, people can be allergic to their pets and not understand their allergies. Mold can be caused by roof leaks in hidden areas of a house and you do not even know it is happening. There can be tension in a home when one person is sick and other is not. Chemical Sensitivity can be an increased vulnerability to chemicals and other airborne irritants. It is hard to deal with also. If you feel that you have Asthma, Allergies or Chemical Sensitivity, call you Doctor immediately.

Benefits Of Grey Water Recycling
There are many benefits of recycling grey water, helping both individuals and the planet. For those who use grey water for irrigation, landscaping and other outdoor uses, such as washing cars, standard water consumption is reduced and water bills will be lower. Grey water recycling also reduces the amount of space that is taken up in septic and sewage systems. Ecologically, grey water has been reported to add nutrients to the soil, improve the quality of ground and surface water over treated water and to support the growth of plants in areas that do not have enough natural water sources to do so.

Asthma - What Is It and The Possible Environmental Causes of Asthma
Asthma is a disease which affects the airways. The inside lining of an asthmatic's airways are swollen or inflamed. It affects the air passages that carry oxygen to and from your lungs. Anyone who suffers from this chronic condition is termed as being asthmatic. It is widespread and makes breathing difficult for more than 23 million Americans.
The sad part about having this disease, is the lack of respect that they get from others. I find that most people are thoughtless and uncaring toward individuals with certain types of disabilities. Others tend to do things that will affect their ability to breathe. Example: Spraying pesticides in a room and not telling the person that the pesticides were sprayed so they could avoid the room temporarily. People with disabilities like this have a rough life, it is just as bad if you were in a wheel chair and there were no ramps for you to go into a building.
Asthma symptoms can include coughing, wheezing, and chest tightness. These symptoms are common in an asthmatic attack. There is a higher incidence of Asthma in children that is on the rise. Some say it is from pollution, others say it is from all the chemicals that are around us. Look at how we live to get an idea why it is very possible that this is being caused by chemicals and the environment we live in.
A child is born in the hospital, where there are high levels of cleaning compounds and disinfectants to keep it sterile. Everything around the child is sterilized and disinfected with chemicals. They aerosolize odor controlling agents to make the air smell good, which is another irritant for the child to breathe before they even leave the hospital. The poor baby has not even left the hospital and is exposed to a multitude of irritants to their newborn airways.
The mother takes the baby home, some babies are breastfed but the majority are put on formula. The formula is heated in a plastic bottle which leeches chemicals into the formula. The child is raised in a house with artificial air called Air Conditioning which can contain mold, allergens and bacteria that is not properly maintained.
The baby plays with plastic toys that they put in their mouths that can leech plastic into their little bodies. Next time you buy a new toy for your child, taste it and smell it. That smell is called outgassing and it is a mixture of chemicals that your child will put into their mouths. Have you ever been in a fire when plastic is burning and how it can affect your ability to breathe. That is what it is like for someone that is Asthmatic.
A child gets older and is fed frozen vegetables cooked in plastic because it is convenient. Their food is microwaved and not cooked the right way. Next time you cook a hamburger, cook it in microwave and then cook one on the stove top. You will notice the one cooked on the stove is tastier than the microwaved hamburger. Take the taste test. I do not own a microwave in my own house, now you know why.
In conclusion, asthma affects about 23 million people annually. It is controllable and people can live semi-normal lives. Children are born into an artificial environment. They are exposed to cleaning compounds and disinfectants from the day they are born. Living in this environment could possibly be the primary cause of all the new cases of Asthmatic Children in America. You be the judge and make up your own mind. If you feel that you need medical information or are having an Asthmatic attack, consult with your Doctor immediately.

Eating Disorders-Three Bad Types
Healthy eating is very important for our everyday lives, but unfortunately, many people develop problems with body image with prevent them from this healthy eating lifestyle. Eating disorders vary greatly from person to person, but one thing remains constant—they are very detrimental to a person’s health. If you or someone you know suffers from an eating disorder, it is important to seek help as soon as possible.
The first kind of eating disorder that a person may develop is anorexia. Anorexia occurs when someone is overly concerned with weight and simply refuses to eat. Someone suffering from this disease usually tries to hide it by discarding the food without anyone knowing, cutting the food into small pieces to make it look smaller, or lying about skipping entire meals. Anorexia is dangerous because it does not allow a person to lose weight in a healthy way. Cutting fat out of a diet is fine, but not getting enough proteins, vitamins, minerals, water, and other nutrients can make your body lose muscle weight and weaken.
Another major type of eating disorder is bulimia. While you may notice an anorexic person losing lots of weight in a hurry, someone who has bulimia may or may not be losing weight. If a person has bulimia, he or she does not have the will power to give up foods, but instead vomits or uses laxatives after meals to rid the body of these foods. Like anorexia, this can rob the body of key nutrients, and it can also lead to problems in the digestive system, throat, and mouth, which are not made for regular induced vomiting.
The third main type of eating disorder is binge eating. This is a combination of anorexia and bulimia in most cases. A binge eater will, like a bulimic, not deprive his- or herself from food. In fact, someone who is a binge eater will eat enormous amounts of food in a single sitting, and often these foods are not high in nutritional value. Instead of vomiting, a binge eater will then refuse to eat at all and exercise rigorously for a day or two, but then slip into a binge once again. This leads to major problems with weight.
Eating disorders can effect bother males and females, as well as people of any race, ethnicity, or age. Most commonly, victims of eating disorders are teen and young adult girls. Many people die every year due to complications with eating disorders, but if you or someone you know suffers from this problem, help is available.
Allergies has developed in some individuals after having a eating disorder. Why it happens is not understood yet but more research needs to go into the area of allergies and eating disorders.
If you believe you are having a severe reaction to a natural essential oil, consult with you Doctor to get more information.

Common Allergens In People
Probably the most common source of allergic reactions
in most people is in their food. Whether its
shellfish, or mushrooms, or even something mundane
like a vegetable, allergic reactions from food are
quite common.
And if you’ve been stung by an insect and notice
excessive swelling from the locality of the bite, then
you’ve got an allergic reaction from that bite.
There are even cases of extreme allergic reactions to
bee stings, resulting in anaphylactic reactions.
Chemicals and medicine also fall into the category of
being a common source of allergic reactions.
If you’ve got to have antibiotics as prescribed by the
doctor, make sure that your body doesn’t have an
allergy to materials in your medicine.

Allergies and How They Affect The Body

If you’ve ever tried inhaling some pollen from plants,
or eating something and finding out afterwards that
you’re covered in red blotchy spots or some other
nasty effect after you eat, then you’ve experienced
firsthand the effects of Allergies.
In common usage, an allergy is an adverse reaction
toward what is called an allergen, or specifically,
the material that causes the allergic reaction.
What Happens When You Come In Contact With An
Allergen?
When you ingest something that causes an allergic
reaction in your body, the immune system is said to be
hyperactive to this material, and with that, the
immune system activates to quash what it sees as a
threat. But it’s actually not, and is quite harmless
and garners no excess bodily reaction in other people.
Once the body’s immune system releases antibodies as a
response to the allergen, it causes the release of
histamine into the bloodstream, which is what causes
you to get teary-eyed and have a runny nose or
whatnot.

Allergies - How Natural Perfumes Can Cause an Allergic Reaction
Allergies are a way of life with some individuals. Avoiding the very thing that causes their allergy is hard to do because of others in their life. Perfume is one of the most common reactors in individuals with allergic hypersensitivity. Some people actually believe that natural is better than synthetic perfumes.
Recently, there has been a study done at the University of Gothenburg that shows that natural aromatic oils can cause contact allergy or eczema-provoking allergens. We have been told by the Aroma Therapists that the natural oils do not cause any type of reaction. This has been proven false by a real life study. Guess there will be some revisions to what goes into advertising of essential oils now.
I have one client who is a Universal Reactor and cannot get around any form of perfume or essential oils. She leads a very lonely life but is a real life survivor of Chemical Sensitivity. She was poisoned by pesticides and is determined to move forward with her life, no matter what is thrown her way. She is an inspiration to others and helps them all to understand how to cope with their allergy.
Natural lavender oil was studied by Lina Hagvall, a researcher at the University of Gothenburg. The results of the study showed that natural aromas or essential oils are not as healthy as reported. Her study showed that essential oils do not prevent the formation of allergenic substances. This is going to be a big blow in the theory of natural substances are healthy for us. The study showed just the opposite. I am sure that there will be some type of backlash from this study, more information needs to be uncovered for the whole story.
I personally use some of the essential oils but will be a little more careful in my selection of what to use now. Peppermint is my favorites but it will be used less now. I have one friend who is allergic to the smell of peppermint essential oil, now I know why. I thought she was just allergic to me, now I know better. Guys and Girls, you need to watch your essential oil, might be a real turn off to your partner.
Allergies can be frustrating but dealing with them is a matter of survival for some individuals. If you believe you are having a severe reaction to a natural essential oil, consult with you Doctor to get more information. This study of Lavender Oil shows that all things in Mother Nature are not always good for us.
